A single figure leans upon an idle cannon. It is a lone musician, A fifer, who, by day, Carried, in notes, the shrill commands As shots rang out on either side. Now the air is still.
Slowly, as the sun slips behind the trees, The figure begins to play. Somehow his song doesn't disturb the stillness. The soft, melancholy melody blends well, Harmonizing with the mournful stillness.
